Blue-print

Once every ten years the gates open to the International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade. The 2022 edition with the title ‘Growing Green Cities’ is an ambitious project to show national and international innovators that make or cities more fun, more beautiful and more sustainable. I am one of the lucky few who get to participate in this event and show my Blue-Print for a sustainable planting.

Like a colourful flower painting the planting is going to be the backdrop for many pictures as a valuable reminder of ones visit to the Floriade. The project is part of a bigger collective of eight plant paintings under the name Classics & Future and designed by well know planting designers like Jacqueline van der Kloet and Ton ter Linden.

The project is part of a bigger collective of eight plant paintings under the name Classics & Future and designed by well know planting designers like Jacqueline van der Kloet and Ton ter Linden.

A planting scheme based around blue and yellow colour to attract beneficial pollinators like the bee. Strong plant combinations form modules which are repeated randomly over the border resulting in a natural looking composition. In this base tapestry emergent species are added for the needed interest during the growing season.

Thorough research into the tradition of planting design and a future prognoses of the evolution toward a more naturalistic style of plantings led to initial concept for this scheme.
